McClure, Richard - President of UniGroup
Rich McClure is president of UniGroup, the parent of specialized transportation companies United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, as well as related subsidiaries. UniGroup is a $1.7 billion transportation and relocation services company with home office in St. Louis, MO. In addition to household goods carriers United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, UniGroup owns other subsidiaries that provide goods and services to transportation companies.
Mr. McClure came to the UniGroup companies in 1995 as executive vice president/chief operating officer of United Van Lines. He served as president of UniGroup Worldwide and was appointed president of UniGroup in 2002.
Prior to joining United, Mr. McClure was a banking executive with Central Bancompany of Jefferson City, Mo. From 1985 until 1992, he was chief of staff for then-Missouri Governor and former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. Previously, he was deputy chief of staff and assistant to Governor Jim Thompson of Illinois; and was cabinet-level director of Illinois' Central Department of Management Services.
Mr. McClure earned his bachelor's degree in management from Missouri State University and his master's degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
Rich serves on the Board of Governors of Opportunity International and is a member of the CEO Forum. He also serves on the boards of the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America; U.S. Chamber of Commerce, St. Louis Civic Progress; St. Louis Young Life, Central Bancompany; and Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Rich and his wife, Sharon, are 2011 co-chairs of the St. Louis United Way Alexis de Tocqueville campaign.
Rich and Sharon have been married for 32 years and have two married children – Ryan, a journalism school graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia who is communications manager at Safety National Insurance Company and Lindsay, a graduate from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, who served as a Teach for America corps member in Chicago and is now pursuing her law degree at St. Louis University.
